Job Summary

Dearnsdale Fruit, a horticultural farm specializing in fruit production, is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Horticultural General Farm Worker. As a Horticultural General Farm Worker, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our farm, specifically focusing on horticultural tasks related to fruit production. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a passion for working in an agricultural setting.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist with the cultivation, planting, pruning, and harvesting of fruit crops, following established horticultural practices.
2. Carry out tasks such as weeding, thinning, and pest control to ensure optimal plant growth and fruit quality.
3. Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, pruning tools, and irrigation systems.
4. Monitor crop health, identifying and reporting any diseases, pests, or other issues to the farm management.
5. Participate in irrigation activities, ensuring plants receive appropriate water levels for their growth stages.
6. Assist in the installation and maintenance of trellis systems, netting, and other infrastructure related to fruit production.
7. Collaborate with other farm workers in the packing and grading of harvested fruits.
8. Follow health and safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
9. Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, including storage sheds and equipment storage areas.
10. Support general farm maintenance tasks as required, including fence repair, mowing, and other duties.

Qualifications:

1. Previous experience in horticulture, fruit farming, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
2. Knowledge of horticultural practices, including planting, pruning, and pest management, is advantageous.
3. Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
4. Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
5. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
6. Flexibility to work on weekends and holidays, as required during peak farming seasons.
7. Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and follow instructions.
8. A valid driver’s license may be preferred, depending on the farm’s location and requirements.
