Responsibilities
As a Health Care Assistant at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with patient care activities under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals
- Taking and recording vital signs
- Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding
- Collecting specimens for diagnostic testing
- Monitoring and reporting changes in the patient’s condition
- Providing emotional support and companionship to patients and their families
- Assisting with mobility and transfers
- Maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program
- Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A compassionate and empathetic demeanor
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- The ability to lift and transfer patients
