Job Summary:

Wellgate Community Farm is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Farm Stock Worker to join our team in the UK. As a Farm Stock Worker, you will be responsible for the care and management of the farm’s livestock, ensuring their health, welfare, and overall well-being. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a community-focused farm environment and contribute to the success of our farm operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide daily care and management of farm livestock, including feeding, watering, and ensuring their general well-being.
2. Monitor the health of the animals, identify signs of illness or distress, and take appropriate action, including seeking veterinary care when necessary.
3. Maintain clean and appropriate housing facilities for the livestock, ensuring they are comfortable and have adequate space.
4. Assist with the breeding, birthing, and rearing of livestock, following best practices and guidelines.
5. Conduct regular health checks and administer vaccinations or medications as required.
6. Carry out routine tasks such as grooming, hoof trimming, and milking, following proper procedures and protocols.
7. Maintain accurate records of livestock health, breeding, and production data.
8. Assist with the maintenance of farm infrastructure and equipment, including fencing and housing repairs.
9. Collaborate with other farm staff and volunteers to ensure smooth farm operations.
10. Engage with visitors and provide education on farm animals and their care.
11. Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
12. Adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures.

Requirements:

1. Previous experience working with livestock on a farm is essential.
2. Knowledge of farm animal health, welfare, and husbandry practices.
3. Ability to handle and restrain livestock safely and effectively.
4. Understanding of breeding and reproduction processes in farm animals.
5. Excellent observation skills to identify signs of illness or distress.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Good record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
8. Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
10. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required by farm operations.
11. Legal eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
