We are urgently hiring 2 experienced Cooks to assist in preparing authentic Indian cuisine for our restaurant. As a Cook, you will be responsible for ensuring every dish meets our high-quality standards while maintaining the traditional flavors that our customers love.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Cooking:

  • Prepare and cook a wide range of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori specialties, vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, appetizers, and desserts.
  • Prepare sauces, gravies, and marinades from scratch using authentic Indian spices and herbs.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as tandoor ovens, gas ranges, and deep fryers.
  • Ensure all food items are cooked to perfection and meet the restaurant’s standards of taste, appearance, and portion control.

Menu Planning & Development:

Collaborate with the Head Chef and management on new recipe development and menu changes.

Suggest new Indian dishes or regional specialties to diversify the menu and attract new customers.

Inventory Management & Quality Control:

  • Monitor inventory levels of food, spices, and kitchen supplies.
  • Ensure timely ordering of ingredients and supplies to avoid shortages.
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.
  • Maintain consistency in food quality and presentation.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations as set by Canadian health authorities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, workstations, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper storage of food items to prevent spoilage and contamination.
  • Monitor food temperatures and cooking times to prevent foodborne illnesses.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work as part of a kitchen team, assisting other cooks and kitchen staff as needed.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff on Indian cooking techniques and recipes.
  • Communicate effectively with serving staff to ensure smooth order processing and customer satisfaction.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • A culinary diploma or certificate is an asset but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Cook in an Indian restaurant or similar setting.
  • Expertise in preparing North Indian and/or South Indian dishes preferred.
  • Experience operating a tandoor oven is a strong advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Indian spices, herbs, and cooking methods.
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently under pressure during busy hours.
  • Attention to detail, especially in food presentation and portioning.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow kitchen protocols.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Fast-paced, high-pressure environment, especially during meal times.
  • Physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy pots or containers.
  • Work in a hot and noisy kitchen environment.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts required based on restaurant operations.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $29.00 per hour for 32 hours per week
