Job Description:

The Inn at Bay Fortune, located in Canada, is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. As a Sous Chef, you will play a key role in assisting the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring the delivery of exceptional culinary experiences, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Head Chef in planning and executing menus, including developing new dishes and optimizing existing recipes.
  2. Supervise and coordinate the activities of the kitchen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards.
  3. Oversee food preparation, including cooking, seasoning, and plating, to ensure consistency and exceptional taste.
  4. Train and mentor kitchen staff, providing guidance on culinary techniques, safety procedures, and proper equipment usage.
  5. Collaborate with the Head Chef in managing inventory, ordering ingredients, and controlling food costs.
  6. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, following health and safety regulations, and ensuring proper food handling and storage.
  7. Monitor food quality and presentation, making adjustments as necessary to meet guest expectations and maintain high standards.
  8. Participate in the recruitment and hiring of kitchen staff, conducting interviews and assessing candidates’ culinary skills.
  9. Assist in developing and implementing kitchen policies, procedures, and standards to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  10. Support the Head Chef in overseeing special events, including menu planning, preparation, and execution.

Requirements:

  1. Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar culinary leadership role is required.
  2. Strong culinary skills and extensive knowledge of various cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavors.
  3. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and motivate a team.
  4. Attention to detail and a passion for creating exceptional culinary experiences.
  5. Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  7. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  8. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  9. Culinary diploma or certification is preferred, but relevant experience and expertise will also be considered.
