Job Summary:

Southdown, a leading provider of support services, is currently seeking a compassionate and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Support Worker. As a Senior Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with various needs. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and a commitment to empowering and promoting independence in the people we support.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide person-centered support to individuals with diverse needs, including those with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, or other complex needs.
  2. Supervise and support a team of support workers, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  3. Develop and implement support plans in collaboration with service users, their families, and other professionals involved in their care.
  4. Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, medication management, and household tasks.
  5. Support service users in accessing educational, vocational, recreational, and social opportunities in the community.
  6. Promote the independence, well-being, and rights of individuals, respecting their choices and cultural backgrounds.
  7. Advocate for service users, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
  8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, reports, and administrative tasks related to service user support and progress.
  9. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, healthcare professionals, and external agencies, to ensure holistic support and care.
  10. Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in the field of social care.

Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience in a support worker role, ideally with exposure to working with individuals with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, or complex needs.
  2. Diploma or NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or a related field is preferred.
  3. Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with service users, colleagues, and external professionals.
  5. Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach towards supporting individuals with diverse needs.
  6. Knowledge of person-centered care principles and experience in developing and implementing support plans.
  7. Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality requirements within social care settings.
  8. Ability to work independently and make informed decisions, prioritizing tasks effectively.
  9. Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and potentially sleep-in shifts.
  10. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle may be beneficial, depending on the nature of the role and service user needs.
