Key Responsibilities:
As a Safety Officer at SafeGuard Engineering Solutions, your primary responsibility will be to implement, monitor, and maintain safety standards and procedures across our projects, ensuring a risk-free environment for all employees and contractors. Below are the core responsibilities associated with this role:
Conduct Safety Inspections and Audits:
- Regularly inspect worksites, machinery, and equipment to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Perform audits of safety practices and recommend corrective actions to maintain high safety standards.
- Report safety hazards, incidents, or near misses to management and provide suggestions for mitigation.
Risk Assessment and Safety Planning:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards associated with ongoing projects.
- Develop and implement safety plans and safety protocols to ensure the workplace remains risk-free.
- Advise on the proper measures to reduce accidents, injuries, and other risks in the workplace.
NEBOSH Safety Standards Implementation:
- Ensure the application of NEBOSH-certified safety standards, guidelines, and best practices across all operations.
- Organize training programs and workshops for employees to increase safety awareness and familiarize them with relevant health and safety protocols.
- Maintain documentation of all safety inspections, reports, and incident investigations as per regulatory standards.
Emergency Preparedness and Response:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans in the event of fires, chemical spills, or any other workplace incidents.
- Conduct safety drills and ensure that all employees are aware of emergency evacuation procedures.
- Provide first aid or coordinate emergency medical services in case of any workplace accidents or health-related issues.
Compliance and Legal Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations, including Qatar’s labor laws and safety standards.
- Prepare and maintain necessary safety compliance documentation, including incident reports and workplace injury records.
- Advise management on legal health and safety requirements and implement strategies to ensure full compliance.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor the implementation of safety procedures and evaluate their effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
- Prepare weekly or monthly safety performance reports to present to senior management.
- Track safety metrics, including accident frequency rates, near-miss incidents, and safety training completion.
Safety Training and Awareness:
- Conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors on safety regulations and procedures.
- Update training materials to align with evolving safety standards and regulations.
- Ensure that all employees, especially new hires, are aware of and adhere to safety protocols before commencing work.
Incident Investigation and Analysis:
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, or hazardous incidents to determine the root cause.
- Provide recommendations and corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Maintain detailed records of incidents and corrective actions taken.
Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management:
- Ensure that employees have access to necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and safety goggles.
- Regularly inspect safety equipment, machinery, and tools to ensure they are in proper working condition.
- Advise on the procurement and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE to ensure they meet safety standards.
Collaborative Work Environment:
- Work closely with other safety officers, department heads, and project managers to create a safety-conscious culture.
- Actively engage with the workforce to promote safety and make sure that all workers comply with established safety standards.
- Liaise with external safety auditors, regulatory agencies, and third-party contractors to maintain safety compliance.
Qualifications and Skills:
To succeed as a Safety Officer at SafeGuard Engineering Solutions, candidates must possess a combination of education, certification, experience, and skills. Below are the qualifications and skills required for the role:
NEBOSH Certification:
- A valid NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety is mandatory for this role.
- Additional NEBOSH certifications, such as the NEBOSH Fire Safety or NEBOSH Environmental Management, are desirable.
Educational Background:
- A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- A master’s degree in Occupational Safety or a related field is an advantage for more senior positions.
Experience:
- At least 2-4 years of proven experience in health, safety, and environmental management, preferably in the construction or industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with Qatar’s workplace safety regulations and industry standards is an advantage.
- Previous experience implementing safety protocols and conducting risk assessments on-site.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and safety management systems.
- Proficiency with safety inspection tools, reporting software, and risk assessment tools.
- Knowledge of emergency response planning, first aid protocols, and accident investigation procedures.
Communication and Reporting Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to report safety issues clearly and effectively.
- Ability to write detailed safety reports and present findings to management and clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with employees, management, and external agencies.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:
- Ability to identify potential risks and hazards and develop practical solutions.
- Strong analytical skills to investigate accidents and identify root causes.
- Ability to assess complex safety challenges and propose appropriate safety measures.
Attention to Detail:
- High attention to detail when conducting safety inspections and audits to identify even the smallest hazards.
- A keen eye for ensuring all safety equipment is functioning correctly and employees are following safety protocols.
Leadership and Training:
- Strong leadership skills to supervise and mentor a team of safety officers.
- Experience in conducting safety training and workshops for a diverse group of employees.
- Ability to motivate and engage workers to embrace safety practices and ensure compliance.
