Responsibilities:
- Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
- Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, cutlery, and other kitchenware.
- Assist in the preparation and serving of food, as directed by the Chef or Cook.
- Collect and dispose of waste and recycling materials in accordance with the established procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized storeroom, ensuring supplies are appropriately stored and rotated.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Report any maintenance or equipment issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Support the Chef or Cook in basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling and chopping vegetables.
- Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, checking quantities and quality as required.
- Comply with food safety and hygiene regulations, including personal hygiene practices.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within a care home or hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of basic food hygiene and safety practices.
- Ability to work well within a team, demonstrating good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks, such as lifting heavy objects.
- Flexibility to work on a shift basis, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- A positive and proactive attitude towards work, with a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills for record-keeping purposes.
