Responsibilities:
- Supervise Farm Workers: Provide guidance, direction, and leadership to a team of farm workers. Assign tasks, schedule work, and ensure that all activities are carried out effectively and safely.
- Farm Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day farming operations, including planting, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting crops. Monitor and maintain farm equipment and machinery to ensure proper functioning.
- Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure the production of high-quality crops. Monitor the quality of harvested produce, identify issues, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Crop Planning and Monitoring: Collaborate with farm management to plan crop schedules and manage planting and harvesting timelines. Monitor crop growth, identify potential issues, and implement appropriate solutions.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that all farm workers adhere to health and safety guidelines and regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and provide training to promote a safe work environment.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of farm operations, including planting dates, crop yields, and labor hours. Prepare reports as required by management.
- Irrigation Management: Oversee irrigation systems and ensure proper water management for optimal crop growth. Adjust irrigation schedules based on weather conditions and crop requirements.
- Pest and Disease Management: Monitor for pests and diseases that may affect crop health. Implement pest control measures and work with agronomists to address any disease issues.
- Budget Management: Assist in developing and managing the farm’s budget for labor, equipment, and other resources. Optimize costs while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Staff Training and Development: Identify training needs for farm workers and provide opportunities for skill development and growth within the team.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in farming or agricultural management, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of crop cultivation, irrigation techniques, and farm machinery operation.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively lead and coordinate a diverse team.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations in an agricultural setting.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work long hours during peak farming seasons and adapt to changing weather conditions.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and computer skills for generating reports and managing farm data.
