Responsibilities:
- Supervise Greenhouse Operations: Provide effective supervision and direction to the greenhouse workers. Assign daily tasks, schedule work shifts, and ensure all activities are carried out efficiently.
- Crop Cultivation and Management: Oversee the cultivation of crops in the greenhouse, including planting, pruning, watering, and monitoring for optimal growth conditions.
- Pest and Disease Control: Implement and supervise pest and disease control measures to safeguard the health and well-being of the crops. Coordinate with agricultural specialists and use appropriate treatments when necessary.
- Irrigation and Climate Control: Monitor and manage greenhouse climate parameters, including temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Ensure proper irrigation systems are in place and functioning effectively.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high-quality standards for all crops. Regularly inspect produce for quality, size, and readiness for harvesting. Implement measures to improve and maintain product quality.
- Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of greenhouse equipment and machinery. Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition for smooth operations.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Promote and enforce strict adherence to health and safety regulations within the greenhouse facility. Conduct safety training and implement safety protocols.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of greenhouse activities, crop yields, and other relevant data. Prepare reports for management as required.
- Staff Training and Development: Identify training needs for greenhouse workers and provide coaching and guidance to enhance their skills and productivity.
- Budget Management: Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for greenhouse operations. Optimize costs while ensuring the efficient use of resources.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in greenhouse farming or horticulture, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Sound knowledge of greenhouse crop cultivation techniques, climate control, and irrigation systems.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
- Familiarity with pest and disease management strategies in a greenhouse setting.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing demands and weather conditions.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations in agriculture.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and basic computer skills.
- A valid driver’s license may be required.
