Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or welding process specifications.
- Operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
- Operating manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
- Operating brazing and soldering equipment.
- Operating metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening and bending machines.
- Repairing worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
- And other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be successful as a Welder at the U.S. Coast Guard, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed an apprenticeship or training program in welding or have equivalent experience.
- A valid welding certification may be required.
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and welding process specifications.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
