Job Description:
The Inn at Bay Fortune, located in Canada, is currently seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our team. As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for curating and managing the wine program, providing wine recommendations, and ensuring exceptional wine service to enhance our guests’ dining experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a diverse and well-curated wine list, including both international and local selections.
- Provide expert knowledge and recommendations on wine pairings to complement the menu and enhance guests’ dining experiences.
- Assist guests in selecting wines based on their preferences, budget, and food choices.
- Ensure proper wine storage, handling, and inventory management, including monitoring stock levels and replenishing as needed.
- Collaborate with the culinary team to create wine and food pairing events, tastings, and special wine-focused experiences.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new wine releases, and emerging wine regions, ensuring the wine list remains current and exciting.
- Train and educate the serving staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and upselling opportunities.
- Conduct wine training sessions for staff members, enhancing their understanding of different varietals, regions, and production methods.
- Maintain relationships with wine suppliers and distributors, exploring new partnerships and negotiating favorable pricing.
- Collaborate with the management team to set pricing strategies and monitor wine profitability.
- Adhere to responsible alcohol service guidelines and ensure compliance with local liquor laws and regulations.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Sommelier or in a similar role is required.
- In-depth knowledge of wine varietals, regions, production methods, and food and wine pairings.
- Certification as a Sommelier or similar wine education is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with guests and staff in a professional and engaging manner.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage a diverse wine program.
- Passion for wine and a commitment to providing exceptional wine service.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Second language proficiency, particularly in French, may be advantageous.
- Knowledge of local and international wine regulations and best practices is an asset.
