Job Summary:

We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Vegetable Farm Workers. As a Vegetable Farm Worker, you will be responsible for assisting with the cultivation, harvesting, and maintenance of vegetable crops on our farm. Your role will involve performing a range of tasks related to planting, weeding, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and general farm maintenance. This is a physically demanding role that requires attention to detail, the ability to work in various weather conditions, and a passion for vegetable farming.

Responsibilities:

  1. Crop Cultivation:

    • Prepare the soil for planting by tilling, fertilizing, and amending as required.
    • Plant vegetable seeds or transplant seedlings following proper spacing and planting techniques.
    • Monitor and control weeds through manual weeding or the use of appropriate tools and techniques.
    • Assist with irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of crops.
    • Apply fertilizers or organic amendments as directed by the farm manager.
  2. Pest Control:

    • Monitor crops for signs of pests, diseases, or infestations.
    • Assist in implementing pest control measures, including the application of approved pesticides or biological controls.
    • Follow integrated pest management (IPM) practices to minimize chemical inputs and maintain crop health.
  3. Harvesting and Packaging:

    • Participate in the harvesting of vegetables at the optimal stage of maturity.
    • Sort, grade, and pack harvested produce according to quality standards.
    • Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of harvested vegetables.
    • Maintain accurate records of harvested quantities and production activities.
  4. General Farm Maintenance:

    • Perform general maintenance tasks such as cleaning, repairing equipment, and maintaining farm infrastructure.
    • Assist with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, trellises, and protective structures.
    • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, following safety protocols.
  5. Health and Safety:

    • Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Identify and report any hazards or potential risks to the farm manager.
    • Follow proper procedures for handling and storing chemicals, fertilizers, and farm equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in vegetable farming or agriculture is preferred but not required. Training will be provided on-site.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in performing tasks.
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of farm equipment operation and maintenance is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required, depending on the farm location.
