Job Description
As a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer specializing in the Water Sector in the UK, you will be responsible for leading and delivering engineering projects related to water infrastructure. Your expertise will contribute to the development and maintenance of critical water supply, treatment, and distribution systems, ensuring the efficient and sustainable delivery of clean water to communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Lead and manage water infrastructure projects from inception to completion, ensuring successful delivery within budget, timeline, and quality parameters. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams.
- Design and Analysis: Develop conceptual and detailed designs for water-related projects, including water treatment plants, pipelines, reservoirs, pumping stations, and drainage systems. Perform hydraulic analysis, modeling, and simulations to optimize system performance and mitigate risks.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes, standards, and environmental regulations in the water sector. Coordinate with regulatory authorities and obtain necessary permits and approvals for project implementation.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with clients, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, address concerns, and foster effective communication. Build and maintain strong relationships to enhance project outcomes and secure future business opportunities.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures throughout the project lifecycle, conducting inspections, and overseeing testing activities. Ensure adherence to engineering best practices, health and safety guidelines, and quality management systems.
- Budget and Resource Management: Develop project budgets, monitor expenditures, and optimize resource allocation to achieve cost-effective project outcomes. Identify potential risks and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in the water sector. Introduce innovative solutions, promote sustainability, and identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.

Requirements:
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent professional registration is preferred.
- Experience: Have extensive experience in the design and delivery of water infrastructure projects, including water treatment, distribution, and drainage systems. A minimum of [X] years of experience as a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer is required.
- Technical Skills: Possess a strong technical background in civil engineering, with expertise in water-related projects. Proficiency in hydraulic analysis software, such as EPANET, InfoWorks, or WaterGEMS, is desirable.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with UK water industry regulations, standards, and guidelines, including those set by the Environment Agency, Ofwat, and Drinking Water Inspectorate. Experience with water quality assessments and risk management is advantageous.
- Leadership Abilities: Demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multidisciplinary teams and deliver successful outcomes. Proven experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers is desirable.
- Communication and Collaboration: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective stakeholder management and client engagement. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Work Authorization: Must have the necessary work authorization to work in the UK. The employer may provide visa sponsorship, subject to eligibility criteria and immigration regulations.
