Job Summary:

Myerscough College, a renowned agricultural education institution, is currently seeking an experienced and skilled individual to join our team as a Senior General Farm Worker. As a Senior General Farm Worker, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of our farm, providing leadership and expertise in farm management and agricultural practices. This position requires a strong understanding of farm operations, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to supervise and guide a team.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and coordinate the general farming activities on the farm, ensuring the efficient use of resources and adherence to best practices.
2. Lead a team of farm workers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the smooth running of farm operations.
3. Monitor and manage livestock, crops, and land resources to optimize productivity and ensure the welfare of the animals and plants.
4. Implement and maintain effective herd and flock management practices, including breeding, feeding, health monitoring, and record-keeping.
5. Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and adhering to health and safety regulations.
6. Manage the farm’s inventory, including feed, fertilizers, and other supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and timely replenishment.
7. Plan and oversee the execution of seasonal activities, such as planting, harvesting, and irrigation, in line with farming schedules and targets.
8. Develop and implement pest and disease control strategies, monitoring and taking appropriate measures to protect crops and livestock.
9. Maintain accurate records of farm activities, production data, and budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations and reporting requirements.
10. Collaborate with colleagues, industry professionals, and students to promote knowledge sharing and participate in educational programs and research initiatives.

Qualifications:

1. Previous experience in a senior farm management role or a similar supervisory position is essential.
2. Strong knowledge and practical experience in general farming practices, including livestock management, crop cultivation, and land stewardship.
3. Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
4. Proven experience in operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment.
5. Sound understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements in the agricultural industry.
6. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
7. Good record-keeping and data management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
9. Flexibility to work variable hours, including weekends and holidays, as farming demands require.
10. A relevant qualification in agriculture or a related field is advantageous.
