Job Overview
As a Personal Support Worker at The Golden Years Estate, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, client-centered care to individuals in their homes. Your responsibilities will include assisting with daily living activities, offering emotional support, and ensuring the safety and comfort of our clients. Key Responsibilities
Personal Care Assistance
- Assist clients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Provide mobility support, including transferring clients between beds, chairs, and wheelchairs.
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and ensuring dietary requirements are met.
- Support clients with medication reminders and ensure they take prescribed medications as directed.
Emotional and Social Support
- Build trusting relationships with clients, offering companionship and emotional support.
- Engage clients in meaningful conversations and activities to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Encourage clients to participate in social and recreational activities to enhance their quality of life.
Health Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor clients’ health conditions and report any changes to supervisors or healthcare professionals.
- Document care provided and maintain accurate records of clients’ progress and needs.
- Follow care plans and ensure all services are delivered in accordance with established protocols.
Household Support
- Perform light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, laundry, and tidying up clients’ living spaces.
- Assist with grocery shopping and running errands as needed.
- Ensure clients’ homes are safe and comfortable, addressing any potential hazards.
Client Advocacy
- Act as an advocate for clients, ensuring their needs and preferences are respected.
- Collaborate with family members, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to deliver holistic care.
- Promote clients’ independence and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.
Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Stay informed about best practices in personal support and home care.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Certification as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) or equivalent training in caregiving is preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role, particularly in home care or senior care, is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing time and tasks effectively.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety practices in a caregiving environment.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification is an advantage.
