Job Summary:
Maria Mallaband Care Group is currently seeking reliable and dedicated Kitchen Assistants to join our team in providing nutritious meals and maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment for our residents. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen staff and ensuring the smooth operation of our food service.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with food preparation, including washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients.
- Portion and plate meals according to established guidelines.
- Follow recipes and instructions to prepare meals, ensuring proper cooking methods and food handling techniques.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen area, including regular cleaning of utensils, equipment, and work surfaces.
- Operate kitchen appliances, such as ovens, stovetops, and dishwashers, safely and efficiently.
- Receive and store deliveries of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring proper storage and rotation of perishable items.
- Assist with inventory management, monitoring stock levels, and notifying the supervisor of any shortages or discrepancies.
- Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines, including proper storage, handling, and labeling of food items.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely meal service and smooth workflow.
- Follow health and safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably in a care home, restaurant, or similar setting.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment operation.
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects when necessary.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
