Job Summary:

Maria Mallaband Care Group is currently seeking reliable and dedicated Kitchen Assistants to join our team in providing nutritious meals and maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment for our residents. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen staff and ensuring the smooth operation of our food service.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist with food preparation, including washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients.
2. Portion and plate meals according to established guidelines.
3. Follow recipes and instructions to prepare meals, ensuring proper cooking methods and food handling techniques.
4. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen area, including regular cleaning of utensils, equipment, and work surfaces.
5. Operate kitchen appliances, such as ovens, stovetops, and dishwashers, safely and efficiently.
6. Receive and store deliveries of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring proper storage and rotation of perishable items.
7. Assist with inventory management, monitoring stock levels, and notifying the supervisor of any shortages or discrepancies.
8. Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines, including proper storage, handling, and labeling of food items.
9. Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely meal service and smooth workflow.
10. Follow health and safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

1. Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably in a care home, restaurant, or similar setting.
2. Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment operation.
3. Understanding of food hygiene and safety practices.
4. Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
5. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
6. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
7. Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects when necessary.
8. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
