Key Responsibilities:
- Forklift Operation: Safely operate a forklift to load, unload, and transport harvested crops, such as grain, produce, or other agricultural materials. Follow proper loading and unloading procedures and adhere to weight limits and safety guidelines.
- Load Management: Ensure that loads are properly stacked, secured, and balanced on the forklift to prevent damage or accidents during transportation. Follow instructions on load specifications and handling procedures.
- Material Handling: Use the forklift to move harvested crops within the storage facility or loading area as directed. Assist with organizing and arranging materials for efficient storage and distribution.
- Quality Control: Adhere to quality control standards and guidelines when handling harvested crops. Report any signs of damage, pests, or contamination to the appropriate personnel.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all health and safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment. Conduct pre-start checks on the forklift and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of forklift operations, including load weights, delivery schedules, and any incidents or accidents. Complete relevant paperwork or documentation as instructed.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members, supervisors, and support staff to ensure smooth operations. Communicate effectively to address any issues or concerns that may arise during forklift operations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance checks on the forklift, such as checking fluid levels, inspecting tires, and cleaning the equipment. Report any mechanical issues or faults to supervisors for immediate action.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in forklift driving, preferably in an agricultural or warehouse setting, is preferred.
- Valid forklift license or certification is essential.
- Strong knowledge of forklift operation and safe handling practices.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and operating a forklift for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Basic understanding of quality control standards for harvested crops.
- Effective communication skills to work well within a team.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations within a forklift operating environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime, based on the demands of the harvest season.
