Job Responsibilities

As a healthcare professional at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, your responsibilities will include:

For Registered Nurses (RN)

  • Providing high-quality nursing care to patients with mental health conditions.
  • Conducting assessments and developing individualized care plans.
  • Administering medications and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Supporting patients with therapy sessions and rehabilitation programs.
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, psychologists, and therapists.
  • Educating patients and their families on mental health conditions and treatment options.
  • Ensuring compliance with NHS healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.

For Healthcare Assistants (HCA)

  • Assisting registered nurses with patient care activities.
  • Supporting patients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, and feeding.
  • Engaging with patients in social and therapeutic activities.
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients’ conditions to the nursing team.
  • Ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
  • Encouraging patient independence while providing necessary support.
  • Working as part of a team to deliver compassionate care.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

For Registered Nurses

  • A degree or diploma in nursing (Mental Health Nursing preferred but not mandatory).
  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration or eligibility to apply.
  • Experience working in mental health care is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and under pressure.
  • A genuine passion for helping individuals with mental health challenges.

For Healthcare Assistants

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or social care setting is preferred.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (desirable but not required).
  • Compassionate and empathetic nature.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
