The Role: Delivery Driver

Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation & Delivery Excellence
- Safely operate company-provided vans or 3.5-tonne vehicles for local and regional deliveries.
- Load/unload goods using manual handling equipment (e.g., trolleys, pallet jacks), ensuring no damage to items.
- Follow precise delivery schedules while adhering to traffic laws and ATA’s safety protocols.
Route Efficiency
- Use GPS and route-planning apps (e.g., Samsara, What3Words) to optimise delivery times.
- Adapt to real-time challenges like traffic, weather, or last-minute reroutes.
- Minimise fuel consumption and carbon footprint through eco-driving techniques.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, professional interactions with customers during drop-offs.
- Resolve delivery issues (e.g., missed slots, damaged goods) calmly and efficiently.
- Collect signatures, proof of delivery (POD), and feedback to improve service quality.
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct daily vehicle checks (tyres, brakes, fluids) and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure cargo is secured correctly to prevent shifting during transit.
- Comply with drivers’ hours regulations (tachograph rules) and GDPR for customer data.
Administrative Duties
- Complete delivery logs, mileage reports, and incident forms accurately.
- Use handheld scanners or mobile apps to update delivery statuses in real time.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Licensing: Valid UK driving licence (Category B) or equivalent international licence.
- Experience: 1+ years in delivery driving, courier services, or logistics.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift/carry parcels up to 25kg and work in all weather conditions.
- Tech Savvy: Comfort using smartphones, GPS devices, and basic delivery apps.
- Customer Focus: A positive attitude and problem-solving mindset.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with electric vehicles (EVs) or refrigerated transport.
- Certification in defensive driving or ADR (dangerous goods handling).
- Multilingual skills (e.g., Polish, Urdu) to engage with diverse communities.
