Position Overview:

As a Retail Buyer at Focus Management Consultants Ltd, you will play a critical role in sourcing and selecting merchandise for our clients within the retail industry. Your responsibilities will involve identifying market trends, negotiating with suppliers, and maximizing profitability through effective purchasing strategies. Responsibilities:

  1. Product Sourcing: Identify and source potential suppliers and product lines that align with client requirements and market trends. Conduct market research to stay informed about new products, competitors, and emerging trends in the retail industry.
  2. Supplier Management: Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate favorable terms, and ensure timely delivery of quality products. Collaborate with suppliers to develop mutually beneficial partnerships that drive profitability and maintain competitive advantage.
  3. Product Selection: Analyze market data, consumer insights, and sales trends to make informed decisions about product assortment and selection. Identify gaps in product offerings and propose new product categories or variations to meet customer demands.
  4. Pricing and Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to optimize profitability while maintaining competitive pricing for our clients. Conduct price analysis, cost comparisons, and evaluate supplier proposals to ensure value for money.
  5. Inventory Management: Collaborate with inventory planners and merchandisers to optimize stock levels and minimize excess inventory or stockouts. Monitor and analyze sales performance, stock turn rates, and seasonal demand patterns to inform buying decisions.
  6. Forecasting and Planning: Work closely with the sales and demand planning teams to develop accurate sales forecasts and create buying plans that align with market demand and customer preferences. Anticipate and respond to changes in customer behavior and market conditions.
  7. Quality Control: Ensure that products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular supplier audits and inspections to maintain product integrity and customer satisfaction.
  8. Collaborative Partnerships: Work closely with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, and operations teams, to align buying decisions with overall business objectives. Provide input on product launches, promotional activities, and marketing campaigns.
  9. Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies that could impact the retail landscape. Attend trade shows, conferences, and networking events to enhance industry knowledge and build relationships.
  10. Reporting and Analysis: Prepare regular reports on buying activities, sales performance, product margins, and market trends. Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive business growth and optimize product offerings.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Retail Buyer or similar role in the retail industry.
  • Solid understanding of retail buying principles, including product sourcing, negotiation, and inventory management.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers.
  • Proficiency in using buying software and tools to streamline processes and analyze data.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for product quality and market trends.
  • Commercial acumen and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Flexibility to travel as required for supplier visits and industry events.
  • Degree or relevant qualifications in business, merchandising, or a related field is preferred.
