Job Summary:
We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as General Farm Workers. As a General Farm Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting with various farm operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the farm. Your responsibilities will involve performing a wide range of tasks related to crop cultivation, animal care, and general maintenance. This is a physically demanding role that requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a passion for agriculture.
Responsibilities:
Crop Cultivation:
- Plant, cultivate, and harvest crops such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and forage crops.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery, including tractors, plows, and irrigation systems.
- Monitor crop health and apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural chemicals as required.
- Assist with soil preparation, irrigation, and other crop management activities.
Animal Care:
- Feed and water livestock, such as cattle, poultry, or swine, following specified schedules.
- Clean and maintain animal housing facilities, ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
- Assist with animal breeding, milking, shearing, and other husbandry practices.
- Monitor livestock for signs of illness or distress and report any concerns to the farm manager.
General Maintenance:
- Maintain and repair farm structures, equipment, and machinery as needed.
- Fence installation and repair to ensure livestock containment and security.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as painting, cleaning, and landscaping.
- Assist with the construction of new farm buildings or infrastructure.
Harvesting and Packaging:
- Participate in the harvesting of crops and perform sorting, grading, and packaging activities.
- Operate machinery, such as harvesters or packaging equipment, efficiently and safely.
- Ensure proper storage and transportation of harvested produce.
Health and Safety:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, promoting a safe working environment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Identify and report any hazards or potential risks to the farm manager.
- Follow proper procedures for handling and storing chemicals and farm equipment.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in farming or agriculture is preferred but not required. Training will be provided on-site.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in performing tasks.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new farming techniques and technologies.
- Basic knowledge of farm equipment operation and maintenance is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license may be required, depending on the farm location.
